Knockhill BTCC circuit guide

Scotland's top motor racing circuit made a welcome return to the BTCC calendar for 2004 after a year's absence.

Located 800 feet above sea level and itself full of inclines, Knockhill circuit was created in the 1970s when local farmer Tom Kinnaird linked a service road to a disused railway line.

The 1.3 mile track has since been host to many motorbike and car races, attracting huge crowds. Millions of pounds have been spent on improving the circuit and facilities over the years, although tentative plans towards the end of the '70s to extend the layout to 2.3 miles and to build a hotel came to nought.

This is a very tricky circuit as the exit speed here is very important to carry as much speed as possible up the hill towards the start-finish line
