Career highlights:
2005 BTCC with SpeedEquipe, entered as HPI Racing with Friends Reunited, driving a Lexus IS200, currently the only rear-wheel drive car in the championship. However he was forced to sit out the first two rounds as the team had only one car ready. Brands Hatch Indy saw the team get both cars onto the grid, and Ian made his BTCC debut. An incident filled weekend stopped any serious running, with the team treating it as little more than a test session, but Ian scored 2 points and put in a credible performance. Poor reliablity and relatively poor performance of the cars meant that points were hard to come by, and he seemed to suffer more bad luck than almost any other driver - including accidentally colliding with his own team mate in the wet Knockhill weekend. He ended up with 3 points, 17th in the championship.
