BTCC Driver Profiles - John George
Born: 22 March 1961
Lives:
Cornwall, UK
John runs a mobile phone distribution company, and for 2004 is entering the BTCC with an LPG powered Honda Civic. The car is down on power and running without many of the modifications found on the Tourers. At Thruxton he was way off the pace, and attracted some criticism, but in typical style responded "I may be a fool, but I'm a fool with 4 points!". Career highlights: 2004 BTCC with his privately entered LPG powered Civic Type R. Off the pace in Thruxton, then unfortunate to become tangled in the startline incident at Brands. The car was repaired for Silverstone, but the team recognised that it would never be truly competitive so elected to miss Oulton and Mondello while they converted Dan Eaves' indy-winning 2002 Peugeot 406 Coupe to run on gas. The car was immediately quicker than its forerunner when it appeared at Croft, and JG was able to give Hairuman and Marsh a run for their money before a frozen valve intervened. A hike in engine revs saw an improvement at Knockhill, allowing the car to run on the pace of Hairuman's works Proton. The red mist came down after he spun off at Brands, but he was back on form again at Snetterton. Engine dramas ruined Donington, John ending the season with no points in the overall championship but 11th in the Independents with 27 points. 2003 4 wins in Britcar; partial season of Clio Cup 2002 Clio Cup, Renault Winter Series 2001 Clio Cup 2000 7th in BRDC Formula Ford 1600 Links: Website: |
