BTCC Driver Profiles - Jason HughesJason owns and runs Kartworld Racing, which promotes the Southport karting centre he set up in 2002. With support from John Bintcliffe he entered a Nissan Primera in the second half of the '03 BTCC season. Success was limited, but a switch to an ex-works MG for 2004 gives Jason high hopes. He returned for selected rounds of 2005, finish all bar one race in the points. Career highlights: 2006 BTCC with Kartword Racing, this time for a full season. The MG is back, so is the V6 engine. Finished all three of the opening races but was narrowly beaten to a point in the second. Was plagued with problems at Mondello, but switched to a 4-cylinder engine for Oulton Park and was rewarded with a point in round nine. 2005 BTCC, once again entering his Kartworld MG. Jason missed the first half of the season but returned at Mondello with some good performances, and finishied all three of the day's races in the points. Sat out Snetterton but notched up another seven points with some decent drives at a soaking wet Knockhill. He then waited until the final round, but once again bought the car home in the points, although some felt that his early braking in race three contributed to the accident which saw three drivers eliminated. He finished the season in 13th place, with 22 points. 2004 BTCC with Kartworld Racing driving an ex-works MG Z-S with support from WSR. A credible effort was rewarded with a 7th place finish at Mondello where Jason was looming large in the mirrors of none other than Yvan Muller! Racing incidents and poor reliability scuppered his weekend at Croft, and the hoped-for change to the new Judd 4-cylinder engine never materialised. At Knockhill he narrowly missed out on a front row start for race two, but had the satisfaction of briefly battling for position with former champ Jason Plato. 17th overall with 5 points, but the statistics mask just how hard he drove. 2003 BTCC Kartworld Racing driving a Nissan Primera in the second half of the season. 2001-2002 Vauxhall Vectra Super Coupe racing 1999 BRSCC Fiesta Champion 1995-1998 Fiesta cup Links: Website: |
