Formed in 1981, West Surrey Racing is run by New Zealander Dick Bennetts. He is responsible for masterminding the careers of such names as Ayrton Senna, Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine with his involvement in F3 and a racing academy in the 80s and 90s. He moved to the BTCC with Ford in 1986, then teamed up with Honda before taking on the task of turning the MG Z-S into a race winner. The task wasn't aided when factory backing was withdrawn for 2004, but a switch to lighter Judd 4-cylinder engines has seen their drivers become regular winners. For 2005 the team employed the services of Rob Collard, who bagged two wins.
