Team RAC’s Colin Turkington boosted his chances of claiming the Independent’s Driver title after taking sixth place on the grid for the first of three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races taking place at Thruxton, Hampshire tomorrow.
As the build-up for the final races of the season gets underway Colin lines up on the grid two places ahead of Independent title rival Mike Jordan with just three points separating them at the top of the table.
Pleased with his performance Colin said: “The car felt very good in that session and that was the best I was going to get out of it today. This is our second time around at Thruxton this season and I can feel a definite improvement in the balance of the car. My main aim this afternoon was to qualify higher than Mike Jordan so I feel that I’ve done quite a good job.”
Tom Onslow-Cole struggled to get to grips with the set-up of the second Team RAC BMW qualifying 13th overall. He said: “We did alright in the free practice sessions this morning but qualifying just hasn’t gone me way. Our times were consistent but unfortunately everyone else has lifted their game.
Colin pulled one out of the bag so at least we can take a look and compare our data to see where we can make some improvements for the race tomorrow.”
The first BTCC race takes place at 11:00hrs at Thruxton on Sunday 14th October. For digital viewers TV coverage commences at 12.30hrs on ITV4 whilst highlights of Race 1 & 2 and Race 3 live will be shown on ITV1 at 15:30hrs.
